What is the expedition tentative schedule?
Great Horizons (GHANX) will take place between the last Sunday of September (27th) and will end in the last day of October (31st).
The expedition will be divided in 5 sections
First section: Mass Launch System: revealed 9/13/2026
It will take place on Sunday September the 27th and will be ceremonial.
Mass launch will be divided between two events.
EU Mass Launch: 18:00 PM UTC – 2 PM CST
NA Mass Launch: 00:00 AM UTC – 7:00 PM CST
Based in years of feedback and events, we have determined these are the best times to get the most amount of people.
Second section: First Leg. System: Traikaae IA-Y c14-6 Doorstep to Heaven
Players will be encouraged to get to the second base camp before the 2th of October, over 5 days to do 4,698.36Ly. There will be an event that following day (3rd).
The expedition will move out of the base camp on Sunday October the 4th. This is not mandatory and its down to the players leisure.
Third section: Midpoint. System: Eidairld YP-O c22-292 is 11,659.17Ly
Players will be encouraged to get to the first base camp before the 9th of October, over 5 days to do 6960.81ly. There will be an event that following day (10th).
The expedition will move out of the base camp on Sunday October the 11th. This is not mandatory and its down to the players leisure.
Fourth section: Peak. System: Kyloabs GD-A d14-5540 is 22,434.79Ly,
Players will be encouraged to get to the first base camp before the 16th of October, over 5 days to do 10775.62ly. There will be an event that following day (17th).
Important: This is the longest distance within waypoints and the farthest we will go.
The expedition will move out of the base camp on Sunday October the 18th. The next section will last longer to make sure people can attend the next event.
Fifth Section: Halloween event. Triple collision @Matryoshka Eoch Flyuae YK-K c10-56
The collision will happen at October the 28th 16:21:57 UTC, CMDRs are encouraged to get here a day before in the 27th. Colonia is pretty close for restocking, and the destination is merely 3278.59ly from the Peak. After that, there will be a Halloween after party in Colonia (“Shindez for a day” event). Make sure to sell your data before attending any event or be in a public space with any commander.
DISCLAIMER: GHANX and the staff are not responsible for any loss of data in Open play or in any event. While hoarding data is an activity many explorers do, the goal of the expedition is to catalog and not sell game data. We have tools and live databases for data: Universal Cartographic have no purpose than in game credits or to put your sign somewhere.
If you are hesitant, sell your data first on Solo or your own PG before interacting with another player. PG will only be required for events or winging.
All weeks will feature a weekend event that will happen the day before we move into another section.
Traikaae IA-Y c14-6 Doorstep to Heaven 4,698.36Ly.
The midpoint is Eidairld YP-O c22-292 is 11,659.17Ly and the initial point
Kyloabs GD-A d14-5540 is 22,434.79Ly,
What jump range is needed?
To fly the route, we require a minimum of 60 ly which is the standard. The max distance for the expedition is Kyloabs GD-A d14-5540 is 22,434.79Ly, the midpoint is Eidairld YP-O c22-292 is 11,659.17Ly and the initial point Traikaae IA-Y c14-6 Doorstep to Heaven 4,698.36Ly.
What kind of distances per week can I expect?
I generally try to keep the weekly distance needed to around 4,000 Ly to 9,000 Ly in a basecamp-to-basecamp line, which are events. However, this is mostly the direction in which the expedition will host events. The rule of thumb is that if you can make it to Colonia in under 2-3 hours (especially with the Caspian) you can always make it on time for all the events.
What events will there be?
We strive to have a variety of events throughout the expedition. There will at each basecamp be mass jumps, two, at different times of the day to support various schedules.
However, since we have quite the fellow special guests and more flexibility as the goal is to catalog and not much to have big amounts of data. The distance of the expedition allows commanders to sell their data and have plenty of time to come to the events.
Player vs Player and MP Events:
Death Races with Adders or Nomads
Team Mining Contests with fighter escorts
Force shell funny on planet surface
Mass Jumps (of course)
Carrier Rugby Scrums
Rhino Demolition Derbies
CMDR Takelale might do a blogpost on how these events are from, for now enjoy the teaser by names.
Community members are also more than welcome to run their own events along the route as well, just message any organizers.
What is the goal of GHANX in terms of exploring?
For GHANX we will focus mostly on already discovered potential systems with confirmed features via Data. This data comes from free databases like SPANSH or EDDN that allowed us to filter systems based on criteria. This criterion comes from things we consider spectacular; ring collisions, interesting ringed systems or very unique systems.
Other expeditions sometimes involve scouting big amounts of systems, but while appreciated and encouraged (new data is good data), the focus of GHANX will be more in a practical sense of obtaining the data and photos of these hundreds of undiscovered systems.
Exo-Bio and data farming is something we will not actively do, but anyone is welcome to spend their time doing so, but that is not the expedition focus. Rather we want to focus on taking pictures of the entries and then people boxeling them in case they want to find more potential Points of Interest. We have plenty to fish in such a small 1-month timeframe
We are not expecting to explore them all of the spreadsheet queries, but we will want to focus on cataloging them from time to time. What is encouraged is to boxel hunt the systems, perhaps for the chance to discover or find more similar potential systems. Remember, some of these events might be dangerous for data, so we encourage to sell your data before joining any of them
Any third-party apps needed?
We do need at least to run EDMarketConnector or EDDiscovery/EDDLite or any program that sends data to either SPANSH, EDDN or EDSM. This is for helping us find potential queries with your data; maybe that system that you skipped past in a rush have a spectacular view? The only way to do so is by sharing your data.
You can talk to any organizer about these programs if you are new, or follow any of the highlighted links above to get them. You might need to create an EDSM account to track your progress in EDSM – Elite Dangerous Star Map.
Old tools like the Explorarium are discontinued temporarily. We will use the spreadsheets in the discord to track POI’s.
Will there be carrier support? + Can I bring my carrier?
Yes, official carrier support will be provided by the following carriers
- SIDE – SWS//Deputy Lockheart (YES, SHE IS COMING BACK FROM RETIREMENT)
- C.E.A. Psychiatric Institutions Ltd. may also provide an official carrier, plans still being determined.
More to be announced. However, anyone who wants to join us can, even if quietly. Anyone who wants to jump their carrier with us should; it just makes the expedition look bigger
Are Official Events in Open or Private Group, and is it in Live or Legacy Galaxy?
All official expedition events will be in the “Richard Fluiraniz M” Private group, in Odyssey mode. This PG with over 600 commanders have been administrated and coordinated.
The events themselves will take place in the private group “Richard Fluiraniz M” so please send a friend request and request to join group CMDR Richard Fluiraniz M in advance of the expedition so we can easily get you into instance with events. Please do it in advance of the events, mostly I will accept people that has signed in this https://theexpedition.info/Register and synced their Data with EDSM and Inara. I’m more than happy to walk you through this process if you have any questions.
The only rule of the player group is to not be cringe. This means that if you ruin events or disrupt other players for no reason, you are not welcome. However, many of these events will involve pvp and other wacky accidents. So, if you are looking for some explosions, just save it for the events. You might or not have plennty of chance to gank me.
Anything in open play is free game, if you get ganked on open play, that was a risk you agreed to when you clicked Open Play. Remember: the goal of great horizons is to send data and catalogue, not hoarding data. This is why the expedition has so much accessibility to places to send your data.
How does the Mass Jump work, what is the process?
At the start of the event we will hang out while people gather, either on the surface if it is a surface basecamp or on the carrier if it is a space-based basecamp. We will also be in a voice channel in our Discord.
We will do something that I call “commander chains” we will get commanders in the instance one by one by wing inviting them and getting them on the instance. Some of these commanders have friends that possibly can get them into instance. The goal is to get as many commanders as we can while we still have a solid instance.
We will set it up so that the mass jump will happen at the top of an hour, that way it is easy for everyone to synchronize using the in-game clock on the ship’s HUD.
At 10 minutes to the hour, we will gather 5km above the surface, or out of mass lock range of the carrier with some buffer. We will announce the specific system we are all jumping to in Local Chat, System Chat, in-voice in the Discord, and in the cea8-info-and-faq channel in Discord.
At 2 minutes to the hour, I will ask for radio silence and will begin the countdown process. Do not charge your FSD in advance, when the clock hits the hour, we will all engage our FSD and throttle up no boosting please at the destination system.
I’m running behind can you wait a few minutes for me?
Please endeavor to be on time. Delays can cause confusion, so we stick to the original schedule unless there are issues like a game crash or something like that outside our control.
Would there be a charity event?
Of course, and it will be hosted by organizer eralm_237
